Case Study – Goods Mate

At SwallowEMP we believe that anything is possible.

Mark Williams, Health and Safety officer of the Arcadia group identified that two problems needed addressing . The first was evacuating a person in their own wheelchair from mezzanine to first floors in stores. Secondly the fact that DDA platform lifts were being used for stock movement. When these lifts broke down this meant that employees were carrying as many as 30-40 tote boxes up stairs to first floor stock rooms.

SwallowEMP developed a unique goods platform that combines with our Stair Mate evacuation chair. For the first time organisations and companies can now buy just one unit that will provide compliance with safety requirements and meet day-to-day stock and materials-handling needs.  Topshop Oxford recently took advantage with the use of our Goods mate and recently completed their training on the machine. Its main use within the store is to help with restocking the branch as the stock room is located on the first floor. However there are getting the full use out of the goods mate with it also being used to take disabled customers up and down stairs in a wheel chair.

This in fact won “Best Innovation in Health and Safety” at the Innovating Suitability Awards 2010. This machine is the solution to many issues within the work place. It helps to eliminate the risk of accidents and back injuries as no strength is required and is fully operational with one button.
