Reducing the impact of an out of action lift
What happens when a lift breaks down and how long is the lift out of action?
- The lift engineer is called.
- There is a delay from the time of the call to arrival (lift is out of action)
- Time for engineer to fix the lift (lift out of action)
- Lift not repaired and timescale to wait for parts etc.
What problems are encountered by the company?
- If it is a one lift building, potentially the building becomes non DDA compliant.
- There can be major operational problems in the building as they have to wait for the lift engineer to arrive and then see if the lift can be repaired. In many cases lifts can be out of action for a few weeks. People with mobility issues can’t move between floors.
- Unhappy staff
What do SwallowEMP offer to solve the above issues?
- We can provide mobility / accessibility chairs that can transport people that need assistance, up and down stairs, i.e elderly, pregnant, those with disabilities etc.
Swallow Evacuation & Mobility Products Ltd or the lift company can supply in the following ways;
- Like the A.A, they can be called out by the client to site. They will have on board their van, a complete range of machines to suit all staircases.
- Their representative will deliver and train and therefore make the building fully operational. They will provide as many units that the building requires.
If S.E.M.P Ltd provide the cover then can charge on the following basis:
- Option1 – Callout / Type of equip put in /period required and number of units required.
- Option 2 – As option 1 but no callout charge as client has annual contract.
Both of the above will come with a guarantee that equipment will be provided within xx period.
The lift company can supply in the following ways. As above but also have the option that an engineer will have on board his van, a selection of units to leave with client if unable to get the lift working. Building will be functioning whilst lift is being repaired. Another benefit for the lift company in having a piece of equipment on site straight away, takes all the pressure off their lift engineers, this is both to get to site and to fix it. This is because the person that will deliver temporary kit does not have to be a trained lift engineer, thereby reducing costs.
